National Tournament 2020

THE NCGA PRESENTS
COLLEGIATE JIU JITSU NATIONALS 2020

For several years, the University of Texas at Austin has hosted an annual tournament that has drawn clubs from all over. This year, UT Austin and the NCGA are combining efforts to create the first annual National Collegiate Jiu Jitsu Tournament. It will take place on March 28th, 2020 at
UT RecSports Center
2001 San Jacinto Boulevard
Austin, TX 78712

TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE
There will only be an athlete entrance fee.
The team registration fee will be $80, but can be substituted by bringing a volunteer to referee. This referee must be a qualified jiu jitsu practitioner and must be familiar with all aspects of both rulesets.
The athlete entry fee will be $10 if you register before March 10th (early registration) or $35 per person after.

Payment will be expected during weigh-ins and can be accepted in the form of cash, check, or card.
TOURNAMENT RULES
The NCGA has determined the specific rules for gi and no-gi. This can be found on the NCGA Rules Page
WEIGH-INS
Weigh-ins will take place the day of the event in order to ensure a healthy weight cut and fairness of the matches. Due to the number of athletes who compete, ensure that your weight on the registration form lines up with what you weigh on the day of the tournament. We understand that many are cutting weight to compete in lower weight-classes, but if an athlete does not make the weight that they put on their registration form, that athlete is NOT guaranteed a spot in the tournament. Although we will try and remake the brackets in this event, we cannot guarantee it. In the event that there aren't enough competitors in a weight class, weight-classes may be merged with the weight-class above or below them.

In addition, each athlete's student ID will be checked upon weigh-ins and this is required in order to compete.

DIVISIONS
Divisions will be separated by weight and rank/experience. Because many programs lack an instructor that can legitimately promote their members or athletes come from a non-jiu jitsu background, semesters will be substituted in lieu of belt rank. A more detailed explanation and examples are given on the tournament registration page
TEAM SCORING
Because the size of schools (and, therefore, teams) can vary significantly, we want to ensure that every university has as fair as a shot at the team title. Because of this, each team will need to choose one person per each division (weight class and rank) to score before the event starts. Only these individuals' rankings will count for team points. This does not mean that a team can't have multiple grapplers in each division, it simply means that they have to choose one person to score per division. If a member, who is chosen to score, places, then they will earn points as follows. If a grappler, who is not chosen to score, places in a division, then no points will be awarded for that place. The team with the most points at the end of the tournament wins.

1st Place: 3 points
2nd Place: 2 points
3rd Place: 1 points
